Severe Weather Emergency Provision

Severe weather conditions such as extreme cold, high wind, heavy rain, snow and heatwaves all increase the risk of harm to people sleeping rough.

During periods of severe weather, emergency accommodation is provided for people sleeping rough in Mendip. This is known as Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP).

If you are rough sleeping during periods of severe weather, please contact Elim Connect Centre on 01749 677097 to access the provision.

Elim, in partnership with Mendip District Council, coordinate and provide emergency accommodation at times of severe weather to create safe spaces for rough sleepers to leave the streets and take shelter from harmful weather conditions.

SWEP will be opened when the temperature is forecast to be zero degrees or below for at least three consecutive nights. When we are planning to open SWEP, Elim Connect Centre Outreach Team will make contact with rough sleepers in the area, to encourage them to use the provision. Notification of SWEP will also be made online via Mendip District Council and Elim Connect Centre websites and social media accounts.
