Help with an empty home
Mendip Council are committed to helping residents to bring empty homes back into use.
Empty homes are a wasted resource, especially when demand for affordable good quality housing in the District remains high.
The Private Sector Housing Team is responsible for bringing empty homes back into use and can offer advice and grant funding to assist property owners in carrying out essential repairs so empty homes can be lived in.

Financially - it makes sense
Earn money: The demand for affordable decent homes in Mendip remains high. Empty homes could be generating rental income.
Save money: After 2 years of being empty, Council Tax increases to 150%. Government are currently considering increasing this to 200%. Why pay this when the standard rate could be paid by the occupier? An empty home is also likely to deteriorate over time costing more money long term to renovate.
