Members' Allowances

The elected members (Councillors) each get a Basic Allowance. A number of elected members also get a Special Responsibility Allowance for the extra responsibility that some have at the Council.

Here is the current Members' Allowances Scheme:

The amount members get is reviewed with recommendations from the Independent Remuneration Panel. As the title suggests, the Panel and its members are independent of Mendip District Council. Meetings of the Independent Remuneration Panel are not open to the public. However, the Panel's recommendations are considered at the next meeting of Mendip's full Council usually in the month of December.
