Great British Spring Clean: Calling all Mendip #LitterHeroes
We are calling on #LitterHeroes in Mendip to help improve the environment on our doorstep.
The Keep Britain Tidy 'Great British Spring Clean' campaign kicked off on 22 March and runs until 23 April 2019. It aims to inspire 500,000 people to join forces in partnership with community organisations, businesses and governments to collect and safely dispose of single-use plastic from our streets, parks and beaches and recycling as much as possible.
The top three ways you can get involved in the campaign are:
Mendip District Council are supporting the campaign by working with our contractors, idverde, to provide the necessary equipment for you to host your own litter picks. The council can also arrange for the collection of your waste once your litter pick is complete.
Mendip residents can sign up to a litter pick near them. Visit: www.keepbritaintidy.org and type in your postcode or town to see where the closest litter pick is.
You don't have to organise a clean-up or join others if you don't fancy it, you could simply pledge to pick up litter when you take your dog our on a walk or when you're out on your Sunday stroll. Don't forget to pledge your time to show the difference you're making.
Haylee Wilkins, Group Manager Neighbourhood Services, said: ''We can support residents and community groups who wish to organise a litter pick for this year's Great British Spring Clean. We are able to provide litter picks and high visibility vests and collect any waste gathered at the organised litter picks.''
