Licensing

The Licensing Team at Mendip are responsible for administering and issuing licences, permits, consents and notices for Taxis, Street Trading, Animal Boarding establishments, Licensing Act 2003 and the Gambling Act 2005 within the district.


Advance warning: Due to essential system updates some of our services will be unavailable between Monday 12th - Friday 16th September with others being extremely limited. This will be impacting Environmental Health, Licensing and Private Sector Housing services. We anticipate further delays to our normal service standards until Friday 30th September. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused during this time period.

The team are also available to offer advice over the telephone, face to face or e-mail.  Should you require advice, please do not hesitate to contact us on licensing@mendip.gov.uk or by phoning 0300 303 8588, to request for an officer to call you back during office hours Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.   

General enquiries such as submitting applications and photocopying will be dealt with by the Hub staff and Council Access Points during their normal hours of operation.

Temporary Event Notice (TEN)

You will need to contact your council for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) if you want to carry out a 'licensable activity' on unlicensed premises in England or Wales.

Personal Licence

People who wish to run premises where alcohol is sold may require a Personal Licence.

Animal Welfare Licensing Schemes

We currently licence Riding Establishments, Animal Boarding Establishments, Home Boarders, Pet Shops and Dog Breeders.

Scrap Metal Collector and Site Licences

A scrap metal dealer must obtain a licence from the Local Authority in order to carry on business as a scrap metal dealer.

Skin Piercing

If you carry out acupuncture, electrolysis, tattooing, ear or body piercing in the Mendip District Council area you must register yourself and premises with us.
