Festive market was sell-out success
Shoppers, stall-holders and businesses have declared the festive street market in Wells a resounding success that ended their 2019 trading year on a high.
The outdoor event attracted a record numbers of traders to the Somerset city - with crowds to match. More than 130 stalls featured, offering a feast of food and drink and great gift ideas for seasonal shoppers.
Held on Saturday 14th and 21st of December, the 'Christmas in Wells' market experience was organised by Mendip District Council, in collaboration with Wells City Council, the Bishops Palace and local community groups.
The remodelled market was different to previous years, as it connected the street market in the city centre, to Bishop's Palace Green, creating a stunning mega-market for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Stall holders at Greys Liqueurs said: "This year's Christmas Market was brilliant! We had very successful trading days and we would definitely want to participate next year. It was exactly the right mix and in keeping with the spirit of Wells."
Traders at Matney's Shed said "It was a great market, well organised, and a gorgeous location."
And the team at Herbes et Epices, thanked everyone for a "fantastic Christmas Market in Wells."
Cllr Nick Cottle, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, said: "We've seen traders and local businesses thrive as a result of our remodelled market, and customers have been delighted with the range of goods on offer.
"The changes have seen a significant increase in footfall to not only the event, but also the High Street shops."
