Community Weeding Trials

In September 2019, the council took the decision to stop using glyphosate - a weed killer linked to cancer in humans and harmful to birds and insects.

The search goes on for a less toxic, but effective, substitute weed killer. One that we and our communities find acceptable. But until that time - we need your help.

We are setting up two manual weed management trials to see if the council and community can tackle this together by hand, and hoe!

One trial will be in an urban area - Frome.  The other in a village - Easton.

We want volunteers in those areas to step forward and take up the challenge!

Not from those areas? Please register anyway because we are hoping to set up community gardening groups right across Mendip that we'll help facilitate - even if they are not part of the trial.

Sign-up and you will:

  • Enjoy an organised activity in the great outdoors
  • Learn new skills
  • Meet people, and make friends
  • Take pride in your neighbourhood
  • Improve your wellbeing

You do not have to be a keen gardener, or have the kit. You don't need to be physically fit or agile - we need cake makers, flask fillers and general cheerleaders to join in the day too.
