Communities Fund
In June 2021, Mendip District Council invited applications for funding projects that support community resilience, builds capacity and promotes wellbeing.
Please find an update on some of the projects that have benefitted from the Mendip Communities Fund and Mendip Climate and Ecological Emergency Fund.
The Communities Fund panel met in winter 2021, and we are pleased to announce the successful projects.
Shepton Mallet Men's Shed
A workshop for men to participate in woodwork activities. Funding used for fire and first aid training.
Friends Of Mendip School
Funding will contribute to the construction of a swimming pool for the school.
Citizens Advice Mendip
Provides assistance and information to people in the Mendip community.
Doulting Parish Council
Provide a canopy for community activities.
Meare Parish Village Hall
Provide a new kitchen for the parish hall.
Postlebury Bellringers, Nunney
A community bell ringing group that covers three churches.
Coxley Community Land Trust
Provide a pathway for safe access to the community land.
1st Coleford Scouts
Recreational activities for young people. Repair and replace floor in Scout hut.
Houndwood Community
Group community gardening. Provide a greenhouse and equipment.
Jackdaws Music Trust
Funding to provide workshops that introduce school aged children to different musical instruments.
Frome Tennis Club
A contribution towards the construction of a new community tennis pavilion for Frome.
Wells Skatepark Group
Consult and undertake a feasibility study to develop and build a new skatepark for the Wells area.
Over The Wall Productions CIC
Funding to contribute towards a production.
Stratton United FC
Football team providing active recreation for different age groups.
Glastonbury Voices Community Choir
Inclusive community choir for adults.
Litton Village Hall
Repair and upgrade the village hall.
Walton Parish Council
Improve the play area.
Musicians South-West CIC
Provides musical performances in rural and isolated areas.
Easton Village Hall
Provide goal posts for sports field.
Downside Defibrillator Management Group
Provide a defibrillator in the local community.

Provide a peer focused support session.

Restoration of old chapel.
Glastonbury Antiquarians
Upgrade building and garden.
Evercreech Parish Council
Upgrade a skatepark for young people.
Binegar Parish Council
Providing interpretation information boards for walks connecting three churches.
The Old Stores Studio
Provides creative art workshops in Evercreech.
Make the Sunshine
Provides creative theatre and theatre workshops.
The Walled Garden Nursery
A community garden and café.
West Pennard Village Hall
Upgrade the stage area of the village hall.
Ashwick and Oakhill Village Hall and Recreation Ground
Establish a community café.
Somerset Arts Well
Establishing inclusive music groups for families.
Literally Shepton
A festival promoting the spoken word via reading and performance.
Wells Theatre Festival
Drama festival held in July in the Wells area.
Science Boost
A community organisation that promotes science to younger people from diverse backgrounds.
Somerset Art Works
Provide arts and culture programmes that are inclusive for young people.
Cranmore Cricket Club
Active recreation club. Funding to upgrade facilities.
Shepton Snowdrop Festival
An arts festival and celebration held annually in Spring.
Frome Window Wanderland
A festival of light and window displays, using light and colour.
Frome Edventure
Buy equipment for training.
