Supporting local businesses post-lockdown: COVID-19 road closures
Mendip is working with local authorities and partners on a number of schemes to help businesses rebuild after lockdown, and ensure their safe reopening with sufficient space for social distancing.
A mix of measures are being used, including temporary pedestrianisation, pop-up cycle lanes and high street road closures, such as those found in Frome, Street and Wells.
In Frome, there is the temporary closure of Market Place, Palmer Street and King Street except for access for deliveries and cyclists.
In Street, High Street from Farm Road to Vestry Road (where the market normally takes place) has been temporarily closed with access only for deliveries and cyclists.
And in Wells, Mendip has been working the Wells City Council and Somerset County Council, on the temporary pedestrianisation of Market Place, ensuring measures are in place for its safe use by hospitality businesses who have the required Pavement Licence.
