Experienced Corporate Finance Advisor takes up new interim appointment at Mendip
Mendip District Council approved the appointment of an interim Corporate Finance Advisor and Section 151 Officer at its July Full Council.
Richard Bates comes to Mendip as a highly experienced Finance Advisor, Section 151 Officer and CIPFA qualified accountant with over 30 years' experience in the public sector.
Richard has worked as Chief Financial Officer for a number of public authorities including Dorset Police, Dorset Fire Authority and most recently Dorset County Council. Since leaving Dorset, Richard has been working as an expert witness for CIPFA, his professional body.
Stuart Brown, Chief Executive Officer for Mendip District Council, said: "We are delighted to welcome Richard to the interim role. Richard has great experience in senior finance roles with other public authorities, which we see as important in helping us deliver strong financial management and to support the leadership team in delivering the council's strategic objectives."
Every council must appoint a Section 151 Officer, responsible for arrangements for the proper administration of financial affairs and who has responsibility for the administration of those affairs.
The Council acknowledges the difficulties in recruiting during Covid-19 and has appointed an Interim Section 151 Officer for a period of six months, at which point the position will be reviewed.
