Works to Trees in a Conservation Area and/or subject to a Tree Preservation Order Application Checklist

Guidance on Trees, Hedges and Woodlands

Tree Preservation Order application: 

For works to trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order the following information must be provided: 

Application Form 

  • Site Location Plan or sufficient particulars to identify the location of the tree/s are required 
  • Photographs - it is recommended that photographs of the tree/s affected are submitted with the application.  
  • Specification of Works - a full and clear specification of the proposed tree works must be provided.  
  • Statement of Reason for the Works - the reason/s for the proposed tree works must be provided.  
  • Evidence - Health and Safety.  Report by a tree professional (e.g. arboriculturist or horticultural adviser) if your reasons relate to the health and/or safety of the tree(s) 
  • Evidence - Structural Damage.  Report by an engineer or surveyor, together with one from a tree professional (arboriculturist) if you are alleging subsidence damage 
  • Replacement Planting - if it is proposed to fell protected tree/s, details of planting replacement tree/s (including quantity, species, position and size) or reasons for not wanting to replant must be provided.

Works to Trees in Conservation Areas: 

For works to trees in Conservation Areas, the following information should be provided: 

Completed Application Form or written description of the proposed tree works  

  • Site Location Plan or sufficient particulars to identify the location of the tree/s are required 
  • Photographs - it is recommended that photographs of the tree/s affected are submitted with the application.  
  • Specification of Works - it is recommended that a full and clear specification of the proposed tree works is provided.  
  • Statement of Reason for the Works - it is recommended that the reason/s for the proposed tree works is provided.  
  • Replacement Planting - if it is proposed to fell protected tree/s and plant replacements details of replacement tree/s (including quantity, species, position and size) or reasons for not wanting to replant would be helpful.

2 sets of paper documents need to be provided.
