Small Society Lotteries

Lotteries are a form of gambling and those wishing to run them are required to ensure that children and other vulnerable people are not exploited by their lottery.

Small societies based in Mendip that run lotteries need to be registered with us.

Registration will only be granted if the society is established and conducted wholly or mainly for one or more of the following:

  • Charitable purposes
  • Participation in, or support of, athletic sports or games or cultural activities
  • Other "not for profit or personal gain" causes.

The minimum age for participation in a registered lottery is 16 years of age.

A code of practice for lotteries can be obtained from the Gambling Commission.
