Council staff rise to the occasion for charity

Staff at Mendip District Council have got their bake on this week and raised £160 for charity.

From planners to environmental health, staff from across Mendip District Council have baked up a storm this week as the local authority held a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support and Mendip YMCA.

The idea linked up with the national campaign 'the world's biggest coffee morning' run by Macmillan. During 2018 Mendip staff have been raising money for Mendip YMCA as their 'Charity of the Year' and so the coffee morning held on Monday raised money for both charities, with a fantastic £160 being split between the two.

Beth Price, Strategic Marketing and Media Manager, said: "We have some very talented staff who took time over their weekend to bake cakes for the event.

"It was a great success and we hope to run a similar event next year."

So far this year Mendip District Council staff have raised more than £1,000 for Mendip YMCA and are working hard to add to the total before the end of the year.

Each year Mendip staff are giving the opportunity to nominate charities, with an emphasis on local organisations who work within the district, one charity is picked at random from all of the nominations in December each year.
