Purpose of the ProcessingThe personal data you provide is processed to enable the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates. This includes managing customer contact and to facilitate debt recovery and prosecutions for non-payment.  Mobile phone numbers may be processed to send payment reminders by text message.

From February 2021 Mendip District Council will be sharing Council Tax data with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) using their powers under S45(c) of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007. The ONS is processing the data for statistical and research purposes and to assist with the Census process. This data sharing is undertaken under a Legal Notice and as a result the processing is happening under the GDPR Article 6 lawful basis 'Legal Obligation'.  Data is also shared for the prevention and detection of crime, including fraud via the National Fraud Initiative.
