Grant panels meet to review Communities Fund and Eco Project applications

Mendip District Council will convene two judging panels to review and issue up to £400k in grant help to local worthy causes.

Almost 100 applications were submitted to the Mendip Communities Fund and Climate and Ecological Emergency Fund from local organisations, all hoping to secure financial help to get their community or eco projects off the ground.

The popular schemes, launched back in June, are now closed. Two separate panels will now meet to review the applications and allocate the grants.Thank you MDC grants apps image

The Climate and Ecological Emergency Fund panel will meet in late October, with organisations due to be notified of the decision by early November. The Communities Fund Panel will meet in late November, with an announcement expected before Christmas.

Councillor Liz Leyshon, Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services and Projects said: "We're now at a very exciting stage where we get to assess all the wonderful applications for these funds.

"The range and quality of applications have been outstanding. No doubt panel members will have a tough time deciding which projects will be offered the funding boost. They won't have long to wait now, as we are expecting announcements to be made before the end of the year."

Cllr Tom Ronan, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Policy and Climate Change added, "We extended the deadline following feedback from community groups to allow more time to apply and we would like to thank each and every organisation that has applied."
