Housing Strategy

The strategy sets out this council's priorities for the period 2010-2015:

  • Preventing homelessness
  • Making better use of existing housing stock
  • Increasing the supply of well designed and affordable housing
  • Improving partnerships and building community engagement

Our pdf icon Housing strategy [1Mb]has been influenced through consultation and feedback via questionnaires, face-to-face interviews with key stakeholders and engagement with members, parish councillors and residents to produce a strategy which is truly reflective of housing needs in Mendip.

Homeless Strategy

The pdf icon Somerset Homeless Strategy 2013-16 [537kb]sets out the strategic goals for the five Somerset housing authorities. Our ultimate goal is to ensure people have settled homes which enable them to build settled lives. The strategy identifies three goals that will drive forward the homelessness agenda in the coming years in Somerset. The three goals are:

  • Reduction and prevention of homelessness
  • Provision of appropriate advice, accommodation and support if a crisis occurs
  • Maximising effective partnership working to provide cost effective and responsive services

Older People Strategy & Action Plan

The pdf icon Older People Strategy & Action Plan [605kb] in Somerset is designed to ensure that housing, health and social care partners work together with older people and their organisations ensuring that services are developed to meet the specific needs of older people.The document sets out the a developing vision of what partners intend to do to improve the quality of life of people enabling more decision making at local level.The aim is to promote the wellbeing of older people and support them to achieve their life choices and continue to change and improve access to the delivery of health and social care locally.

National Practitioner Support Service Gold Standard

Mendip District Council Housing Options Team are actively pursuing National Practitioner Support Service Gold Standard.  In July 2016 the team was awarded Silver standard and are hoping to make applications for Gold over the coming 12 months - watch this space.
