Popular Weekly Market in Street to be based on the High Street

The new market in Street successfully launched in June with stalls trading weekly in the High Street and Farm Road on alternate weeks. The dual locations and trading times of the market have been under evaluation since launch to ensure the market is best placed for traders and shoppers. Following feedback and evaluation, it has been decided that the market will now run each Thursday on the High Street from 9am - 4pm.

Cllr Nigel Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Community Health, said: "We have listened to the traders and shoppers, and reviewed visitor numbers in both locations, and as such we have decided to move the market permanently to the High Street.  We hope that this decision will see the market go from strength to strength and also bring economic benefits to the high street.

"Mendip District Council has worked in partnership with Street Parish Council to bring the new market to Street, and we are pleased that it is being supported by the local community and we look forward to seeing it thrive as it develops."

Street market adds to the weekly offering of markets across Mendip, with weekly markets already taking place in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wells.

The market hosts a mix of stalls, from everyday basics to artisan food, clothes, and treats to tempt everyone, familiar stalls from other Mendip markets are also present.

The markets team are always looking for traders who can offer something different at their markets.  If you are interested in becoming a trader, please contact the council's market team on 0300 303 8588 and ask to speak to the markets officer or email
