Popular Sunday Market returns this weekend in Shepton Mallet and joins up with a local community event.

Shepton Mallet's Sunday Market is back this weekend and will coincide with 'SHEPTOPIA' - a pop up exhibition of sculptures and installations created by the community will be displayed throughout the High Street, town square.

The Rubbish Art Project is creating public art made from materials donated by the community that will go on display for an immersive outdoor exhibition called 'SHEPTOPIA' launching on September, 14 with a public viewing for the residents of Shepton Mallet.  'SHEPTOPIA' will coincide with Somerset Arts Week on the September, 15 - September, 30 and run for another two weeks until October 14.

Future Shepton Sunday Markets will take place on the following dates:

  • 21 October 2018
  • 18 November 2018

The Shepton Sunday Market will also take place in December as part of an extended market for the Christmas period. Shepton Mallet Christmas Market will run from Friday, December 14 to Sunday, December 16.

Cllr Nigel Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood and Community Health Services, said: "The Shepton Sunday Market is becoming a really established and popular event in the Shepton events calendar.

"It's great when we can join up with community events in the town, as it makes the day even more of an event in Shepton Mallet."

The October, Shepton Sunday Market will celebrate 700 years of the market charter in Shepton Mallet. The markets team at Mendip District Council are looking for traders who make, grow or create products in Somerset to come along and join in the monthly market and celebration of the market charter.

Shepton Mallet Sunday Market welcomes independent traders including arts and crafts, fresh produce, hot food, designer-makers, suitcase traders, but spaces are limited. To find out more about trading at the Shepton Sunday Market or any of the Mendip markets please contact markets@mendip.gov.uk

Car parking is free in Shepton Mallet on Sunday for the market.
