Paying your Council Tax

There are several ways to pay your Council Tax bill:

The Council will send you a council tax bill at the beginning of each financial year (usually mid March) to notify you of the amount you need to pay on a monthly basis.

Using the Internet

Pay your  Council Tax payment online 

By Direct Debit

We recommend you pay your Council Tax by direct debit from your bank account.  It saves you time and effort. You control your payments and you have the option to cancel at any time. Standing Order/Internet Banking Transfer

Payment can be made through your bank and via the Internet by simply quoting the Council's own bank account details. Payment is controlled by the ratepayer and unlike Direct Debit, instalments will not be requested automatically. The details that must be quoted are as follows:

You must ensure that your Council Tax reference is quoted in the transaction to ensure correct allocation of your funds.

By Telephone

Please telephone 0300 303 8588 to pay by debit or credit card (excluding American Express and Diners card). Please have your bill and card with you.

At the Post Office

You can use your payment card at any post office. You must allow at least 5 working days for your payment to reach your council tax account. There is currently no fee for this service.  If you do not already have a payment card please apply to the Council so that one may be issued.

By Post

Cheques made payable to 'Mendip District Council' should be sent to:

Please write your account reference number on the back of your cheque.
