Mendip Help to Rent

The Help to Rent Scheme aims to support eligible applicants to find affordable private rented accommodation and to assist applicants to raise the necessary finance required.

Am I eligible for the Help to Rent Scheme?

The Help to Rent Scheme is available to those with a local connection to Mendip who are unintentionally homeless or threatened with homelessness. You will be assessed by a Housing Options Officer who will confirm your eligibility. For more details, please refer to our pdf icon Mendip Help to Rent Leaflet [226kb].

How will the scheme help me?

The scheme will help you in three ways:

Firstly, you can register on our weekly mailing list at private rented properties. The mailing list will contain information about private rented property available in the Mendip area from all of our known sources which includes Rightmove, local landlords, newspapers etc. You may find additional properties for rent in your own local area so don't rely on this list alone.

Secondly, if you need help with finance, the scheme allows you to borrow the required amount to cover the costs of rent in advance and deposit. You will be asked to exhaust all of the methods of raising this finance yourself through other means such as from savings or through a gift /loan from a family member(s) or friends before you can borrow from the scheme. Interest payments are at 0% and repayment terms are set at what you can afford to repay. All repayments that you make are recycled back into the pot and this money is made available for somebody else in your situation.

Thirdly, we will provide you with pdf icon Top tips for privately renting [136kb].
