Domestic Energy Efficiency advice

We give general energy efficiency guidance to all residents in the district including advice about loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, heating systems, local grant availability, Green Deal criteria and giving Information on renewable technologies. We also deal with a number of partners to promote the Governments Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) initiatives.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE)

One of our partners is CSE which is supported by Mendip District Council and other Somerset councils. The Home Energy Team at CSE provide free, impartial local advice about energy efficiency improvements, as well as help with improving heating, lowering fuel bills and receiving the correct benefits. The CSE website has a wealth of information about all aspects of the energy efficiency, Green Deal, ECO and renewable energy improvements to your home.

The Somerset WISH Project

The Somerset WISH Project has been revitalised to help people in Somerset stay warm and well in their own homes. The WISH team can arrange a home visit to discuss the following:

  • Helping people understand how to better manage their energy use
  • Advice on cutting fuel bills and dealing with fuel poverty
  • Advice about energy efficiency improvements

Consumer Futures

Consumer Futures is for all fuel supplier complaints, information on changing suppliers, fuel debt and disconnections etc. Please call the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0845 404 0506 or go to  their website

The National Energy Action (NEA) website also give valuable guidance relating to energy efficiency, fuel poverty and fuel debt advice.

pdf icon The Home Energy Conservation Act Report 2017 [1Mb] (which incorporates the Council's Fuel Poverty Strategy) is a report required by Government to be published by every council in England and Wales and gives the council's commitment to energy efficiency in the domestic sector and "direction of travel" to help tackle not only fuel poverty but also energy efficiency and conservation under issues pertaining to climate change.
