Find out how the Shape Mendip Lottery can help your community group

5 October 2017

Community groups throughout the district are being invited to attend a special briefing session to find out more about how they can get involved with the Shape Mendip Lottery.

The lottery, which has been established by Mendip District Council, gives players the chance to scoop a £25,000 jackpot prize while also helping community organisations to raise funds themselves.

Many local organisations have already signed up to the lottery and are benefitting from ticket sales - for each £1 ticket bought, 60% of the ticket price will go to support community groups throughout the district.

Since its launch in February, the lottery is on target to raise over £14,000 in its first year for local organisations.  There have been hundreds of lucky winners - with players scooping themselves £2,000, £250 and £25 prizes, or free tickets for the next draw.

Now, to encourage organisations to raise more funds, a special briefing session is to be held this month for groups to find out:

  • How to join the lottery

  • How to promote themselves and increase their ticket sales

  • How to engage with the local community

The session will take place on Thursday 19 October, from 11am to 1pm in the Council Chamber, Mendip District Council offices, Shape Mendip Hub, Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5BT.

The event is being run by Spark, who will be running a workshop from 11.30am - 12.30pm and who will also have staff on hand to provide one-to-one support. Refreshments will also be available.

Cllr Philip Ham, Portfolio Holder for Transformation, said: "Since its launch the Shape Mendip Lottery has gone from strength to strength and has already raised thousands of pounds for local good causes.

"This briefing session is an ideal way for local community groups who haven't already signed up to the lottery to find out how to get involved, as well as giving those groups already involved some useful tips on how to increase their ticket sales.

"I'm very grateful to Spark for hosting this session and hope that local organisations throughout the district will attend to find out more."
