End Loneliness in Mendip campaign - Somerset Sight

28 July 2017

Mendip District Council, working alongside a number of leading local health and wellbeing service providers, including Health Connections Mendip, Somerset Public Health and Mendip General Practices, has launched the End Loneliness in Mendip campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the support available for older people who are suffering from loneliness.

End Loneliness

One organisation backing the campaign is Somerset Sight who have offered a Volunteer Visiting Service to visually impaired people since 1997 when the service was set up in conjunction with Somerset County Council.

The Volunteer Visiting Service aims to reduce loneliness and isolation by providing visits from trained, police checked, local volunteers who offer 1:1 practical and emotional support to enable people to manage their sight loss more effectively and to help them to continue to live independently in their own homes.

People who have recently received volunteer visits from Somerset Sight have said;

"All we do is talk but my volunteer is a weekly ray of sunshine in my life"

"Thank you for the wonderful volunteer service which has made such a difference to my life and I am so grateful for it"

Somerset Sight offers support to residents across Somerset. To find out more, contact Somerset Sight on 01823 333818 or visit
