13 March 2017

Time's running out to buy tickets for the first Shape Mendip Lottery draw on Saturday 25 March.

For the first draw there will be an added incentive for lottery players. In addition to being in with a chance of scooping the £25,000 jackpot prize, all tickets for the first draw will be entered into a raffle where players can win an iPad Mini (thanks to Ashfords LLP), a Kindle, two Fitbits and also a 12-month family membership to any one of the district's Fusion leisure centres (thanks to Fusion Lifestyle).

As well as being in with a chance of winning a great prize, players of the lottery are helping to raise vital funds for the third sector.

For each £1 ticket bought, 60% of the ticket price goes to support voluntary and community groups active in the Mendip district and 20% goes to prizes. Players can choose to support a specific good cause or opt for the central pot.  No money will go to the council.

Players of the Shape Mendip Lottery choose six numbers. To win the jackpot, the ticket must match both the numbers and the sequence they are drawn in. Players can win smaller prizes if their ticket matches the sequence of the first or last two, three, four or five numbers drawn.

The Shape Mendip Lottery is an online lottery and draws will take place at 8pm every Saturday. The first draw will take place on Saturday 25 March. Players can buy tickets online by visiting the Shape Mendip lottery website -

Cllr Philip Ham, Portfolio Holder for Transformation, said: "The first draw for the new Shape Mendip Lottery is just around the corner, so make sure you sign up and buy your tickets now.

"As if helping local good causes and being in with a chance of winning a £25,000 jackpot prize wasn't enough, for the first draw there will also be a range of other top prizes up for grabs. We are very grateful to Ashfords LLP and Fusion Lifestyle who have donated prizes.

"Mendip is only the third council in the country and the first in the south west to launch a lottery like this and we've had an extremely positive response from the local community.

"I would like to wish everyone who buys tickets for the first draw the very best of luck and thank them for helping to support the valuable work of community and voluntary groups in the district."

Mendip has had its licence for the lottery approved by the Gambling Commission and has appointed Gatherwell, an External Lottery Manager, to run the lottery.
