Parking Permits

Mendip District Council offer several types of parking permits which are available to the general public, business users and residents.

Procedure up to 30th September 2018

Season Tickets

Season Tickets can be purchased for the following car parks in Mendip (subject to availability). For further information please see below documents:

Residents Permits

Residents Permits are available for selected car parks in Shepton Mallet and Frome.

Residents Permits are sold in the following car parks (subject to availability and valid proof of residency being provided):

South Parade


Wine Street


Rook Lane

Due to a shortage of residential parking facilities in Mendip, waiting lists have accrued. Whilst every effort is made to maintain the accuracy of these lists, there have been occasions where residents moving out of the area have included their permit in the sale of the property. Business Permits

Business Permits are available for Shepton Mallet Service Yards and are sold for the following car parks (subject to availability and valid proof of business being provided):

Great Ostry Service Yard

Regal Road Service Yard

Castle Court Service Yard

Business permits are very popular and due to the limited spaces available waiting lists have accrued. For further information please see below document.

Payment of Parking Permits can be made by one of the following methods:

Cheques and Postal Orders - these should be made payable to Mendip District Council and sent with the Season Ticket covering letter to Mendip District Council, Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5BT.

Debit or Credit Card Payments - Customer Services can take credit/debit card payments over the phone. You can contact them on 0300 303 8588.

Please note: for Residents and Business permits we need the relevant proof of residency/business before payment can be taken.

Important Information:

  • Season tickets are only valid for the car park stated on the ticket.
  • Charges for season tickets vary throughout the District.
  • To apply for a season ticket please contact our Customer Services department. Please read the conditions of use before applying.


Procedure from 1st October 2018

Mendip District Council will be changing the way it manages its car park season tickets, residents permits and business permits. With effect from October 2018, all season tickets will be available for application, payment and administration online.

The new system for permit management has been used by our parking partner Somerset County Council for the purchase of resident permits across the County over the last year with great success.

All permits will become "virtual" as with your vehicle road fund licence.

The County's enforcement officers will check the database to ensure the parked vehicle has a valid season ticket. This prevents penalties being received should you forget to display the season ticket or if it is obscured.

To purchase or renew your permit please follow the link below to the Somerset County Council MiPermit Portal and select the Mendip District area of the portal. This will become available during the first week of October.

The portal will enable you to upload any supporting documents required
