Legal challenge to Mendip's Local Plan withdrawn

14th April 2015

A High Court challenge to Mendip District Council's decision to adopt its Local Plan Part 1 has been withdrawn.

On Monday (13th April) developer Gladman Developments Ltd lodged a 'Notice of Discontinuance' with the High Court, which confirmed the company was ending its legal action.

In January this year, Gladman began a legal challenge to the Local Plan Part 1 on the basis that it did not believe that the amount of new housing to be provided in the district up until 2029 was sufficient.  Mendip District Council pledged to fiercely contest the action.

Tracy Aarons, Corporate Manager for Built Environment, said: "I welcome this news, which means we can carry on with the second part of the Local Plan, which will earmark the specific sites needed to meet development needs in the future."
