Fleeing domestic abuse

If you are in danger of losing your home it is important that you contact the Housing Options Team as soon as possible.

Domestic abuse is: "any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality."

Domestic abuse can encompass, but is not limited to:

  • psychological
  • physical
  • sexual
  • financial
  • emotional

It can include harassment, forced marriage, honour-based violence and female genital mutilation.

Domestic abuse occurs across all of society, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, wealth or geography.

Domestic abuse is rarely a one-off event and controlling and abusive behaviour maybe ongoing.  There are many services available to help escape domestic abuse .

Free Polish domestic abuse counselling helpline is 0800 061 4004 for Polish who have experienced domestic abuse and cannot access British mental health services due to the language barrier.
