The Somerset recession impacts task group is a countywide project funded by Communities and Local Government and hosted by Mendip District Council. The aim of the group is to prevent homelessness for homeowners, social housing tenants and private tenants that have been affected by this recession.
A conference was held on the 5th of March 2010 to launch our work across Somerset. The attendance list is comprised of people from all five local authorities, supported housing, private sector, registered social landlords, Shelter Taunton, money lenders, Citizens Advice Bureau's, Credit Unions, Civil Court, NHS, Jobcentre Plus, National Homelessness Advice service, Somerset Skills and Learning, Homelessness Action Team and Communities and Local Government.
As a result of our conference we have put together a Countywide action plan to help mitigate against the affects of the recession. The action plan is a practical set of actions to prevent homelessness across all tenures.
This mapping of services document is another output from the conference. It clearly indentifies all of the organisations in Somerset and highlights the services they offer in relation to preventing homelessness due to the recession.
The Somerset Recession Impact meetings take place each month in Taunton Deane Council, Belvedere Road, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 1HE.
