Refuse and Recycling - Clinical Waste Collections

The Council provides a clinical waste collection to private households. Clinical Waste is any waste which poses a threat of infection to humans. The term also includes drugs, sharps or other pharmaceutical products.

Examples of clinical waste include:

  • Human or animal tissue
  • Blood or other bodily fluids
  • Excretions
  • Drugs or other pharmaceutical products
  • Swabs or dressings
  • Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments

There is no charge for removal of clinical waste from domestic properties.

Requests for a clinical waste collection are referred from the Area Health Authority. If you believe this is a service you require, please contact either your Doctor or Specialist.
