Community Planning and the Sustainable Community Strategy

Specific tasks for the service are to:

  • Provide support and advice to the Mendip Strategic Partnership (MSP) and its sub groups.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of a Sustainable Community Strategy for Mendip
  • Monitor how the aims in the Sustainable Community Strategy are being met
  • Periodically review the Sustainable Community Strategy

The Mendip Strategic Partnership

The Mendip Strategic Partnership (MSP) brings together representatives from the three tiers of local councils, the police, health, voluntary and community organisations and local business groups who are committed to improving quality of life in the district of Mendip. Its role is to co-ordinate and influence the work of agencies that can have a positive impact on quality of life in Mendip.

The partnership works by:

  • identifying the most important issues, concerns and opportunities for the district
  • agreeing what partners can realistically do in response
  • co-ordinating and steering partner actions towards these priorities
  • overseeing progress against agreed targets
  • identifying where and how it can add value to existing partnership work.

Mendip's Sustainable Community Strategy

In March 2010 the Mendip Strategic Partnership (MSP) published its draft Sustainable Community Strategy for consultation. The Strategy's role is to explain the MSP's shared ambition for the district, based on evidence that includes local people's views and opinions. It identifies priorities for action and explains how partners are working towards achieving them. The Strategy is all about promoting, protecting and where appropriate improving the things that make this district unique. By signing up to it, partners have agreed that it will influence and guide the services they provide in the district.

The consultation closed on 21st May 2010. Responses have been considered by the MSP and the final strategy can now be downloaded using the link on the right side of this page.
