Street Naming and Numbering
Mendip District Council carry out street naming and numbering of new properties, developments and roads. In addition to this we also offer a renaming service where individuals wish to change the name of their property so they can officially change their address.
In all cases the District Council checks to ensure that the proposed name of the property, development or road is suitable through consultation with the Post Office and, where relevant, the Parish Council.
Once the naming has been agreed the Council then formally notifies Statutory Undertakers, the Emergency Services, BT, County and Local Authority service providers, Ordnance Survey and the National Land and Property Gazetteer on your behalf of the new name, to ensure that your property, development or road is registered by those groups.
The charges for these services are as follows:
Activity | Charge |
Individual house name or number | £100 plus VAT |
Individual house re-name or re-number | £100 plus VAT |
Development of 10 plots or less | £150 plus VAT |
Development of over 10 plots | £150 plus an additional £10 per plot plus VAT |
Change of existing street name at residents' request | £150 plus an additional £10 per property plus VAT |
