Building Regulations - Charges

This page shows the fees chargeable for applications under the Building Regulations.

Charges for Enquires Relating to Building Control Matters

Mendip Building Control has found itself spending an increasing amount of time dealing with enquires from solicitors and homeowners in relation to property sales. In order that the cost of these inquiries do not impede on the provision and cost of providing an effective building control service it has become necessary to introduce charges to cover the administrative cost of carrying out these enquiries.

From 1st September 2005 the following charges will apply.

  • Administrative charge for researching an enquiry - £33.00
  • Copy of a building control certificate or approval - £3.00 per sheet

All charges include VAT.

Please note that all charges are payable in advance.

Full Plans Application

The charges are payable as follows:

  • The plan charge, payable at the same time as submitting the application - this charge is for checking the plans.
  • The inspection charge, payable after the first inspection on site by our Building Control Surveyor. You will be invoiced for the charge, and it will cover all subsequent inspections; no further charges are payable.

Building Notice Application

The Building Notice charge incorporates both the plan charge and the inspection charge, and is payable when you submit your application.

The charges for each type of application are the same, and are payable as described below. Value Added Tax (VAT) is calculated at the current rate of 17.5%.

Rules for Measurement of the Floor Area

The floor area is calculated by measuring the distance between the finished internal faces of the walls enclosing the area. If there is no enclosing wall, the measurement should be taken to the outermost edge of the floor.

The area of each storey should be aggregated to calculate the total floor area.
