The loss of a family member or friend is a sad time that is often made more difficult because we do not know about the services we need. This section aims to take some of the stress out of the situation by setting out what you need to know about registering a death.
Mendip District Council provides cemeteries in the following location:
The popular belief that the actual grave itself is purchased is incorrect. The purchaser only acquires a right of burial within a grave for a specific period.
The Council do not carry out the exhumation of graves within their cemeteries but will give advice on obtaining the Home Office Licence required.
More and more people are interested in researching family histories but searching burial records for information can be a time consuming process.
A memorial is a marker (usually of stone) erected over a grave commonly thought of as a headstone or gravestone.
If a person dies in the Mendip area, it may fall to the Council to arrange a public funded burial. Ultimately the local authority has a duty to bury or cremate someone who has nobody to arrange a funeral for him or her. We are usually called upon where people have died without family on friends to make the necessary arrangements.
You can appeal an Excess Charge Notice if you believe it has been issued unfairly – but there are strict grounds under which an appeal will be considered.

This Act means you are legally obliged to clear up after your dog if it fouls any land which is open to the air, and to which the public have access. In addition the legislation will also mean that smoking will no longer be allowed on public transport or in vehicles used for work by more than one person. The reason why the law has been introduced is to protect the public and employees from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.
